I fix things, mostly computers, sometimes the people problems around the computers. This page is plain HTML because plain HTML doesn't break, and I've spent enough of my life fixing things that broke for no good reason.

1. Notes

Things I wrote down so I'd stop re-learning them. Newest first.

Why your "clean" reinstall isn't the persistence spots nobody checks because the wizard doesn't mention them.

Reading a packet capture like a repair ticket symptom first, then the boring questions, then the cause.

The 75-cent rule small discrepancies are free diagnostics. Chase them.

2. Tools

Small utilities I built because the existing option was either bloated, abandoned, or both. Each one does one job.

Posted as I have time.

Everything ships as source. If you won't read it, that's between you and your threat model.

3. About

Started at a Radio Shack parts counter, caught the tail end of the era when the component drawers still mattered. Then years of bench work: hundreds of consumer machines, most of them infected, all of them somebody's whole life. You learn fast that the malware is the easy part. The hard part is explaining what happened without making the owner feel stupid.

These days the machines are bigger and the stakes are higher, but the job is the same: figure out what broke, figure out how it got in, make it not happen again. I'm not interesting. The work occasionally is.

4. Contact

Email works. I read everything, reply to most of it, and answer technical questions faster than anything else.
